Bookies Seminar, Exhibition at Kiasma, Helsinki

This April I was visiting Helsinki for several business meetings as well as Bookies seminar about independent publishing. During the seminar there were a lot of talks about the ongoing exhibition at Kiasma, so that I decided to check it out.

First of all, I was amazed by the quality and creativity of the works. I also liked the fact that there were not so many works with mature content comparing to other exhibitions that take place all around the world nowadays.

Landegra website design upgrade

In may our company is getting 1 year old and to celebrate this event we decided to upgrade our website a little.

With the use of CSS3 we added nice and smooth transitions to several elements as well as exchanged the main collection of fonts on the website to make it even cleaner than it was before. Old browsers users may be disappointed, but come on, it’s 2012, we have to be in line with rapidly developing technologies.

In the end we made a slight redesign of both blog and single post page. Moreover, in the sidebar of the blog page we added a Twitter and an Instagram feeds, so now it’s double fun.

And now we proudly present Landegra Design 2.0 🙂

Business weekend in Helsinki, Finland

Recently we had a business weekend in Helsinki, visiting Bookies seminar about independent publishing (there will be a separate post about this), having business meetings and a lot of good time.
Helsinki is a very nice city with a lot of fabulous architecture, beautiful streets and very warm people. I wish we could stay a bit longer, but we only had two days. So, the program was pretty tight and we got back to Tallinn tired, but happy.

Genombrottet cover design process

When somebody is looking and a very simple and minimalistic cover, he/she has NO idea, how long designing process can be. Sometimes pretty simple idea takes a lot of steps to arrive to.

Client: Five Spice Street is one of the most astonishing novels of the past twenty years. It’s a pretty … mystique book about a street in a chinese city, and a “Madame X” that no one knows what she’s like.
AD: Got your point, we’ll make some sketches …

Interactive pdf-document as a new service of Landegra Design

Have you ever thought, that there will be a day, when you get a possibility to navigate inside of pdf using buttons, just like on website? No need to scroll, just click the buttons.

Lately this kind of functionality was introduced in pdf. If you are not sure, how it works, we recommend to check out our books portfolio that we have made recently.

From now on you can say “goodbye” to old static pdf files as Landegra Design will happily help you with creation of interactivity in your books, magazines and any kind of advertising material. At the moment browser-integrated pdf-viewers do not support interactivity in PDFs, but we’re sure they will in a very short time.

Goodbye 2011

It was a very nice year for Landegra. First of all, it was the year Landegra officially became a company and made a lot of awesome stuff.

We started in June and during this period of time we created:

  • 18 Websites
  • 10 Books
  • 25 Printed design items (posters/ads/pages/business cards)
  • 6 Logotypes
  • 12 High-quality vector Illustrations
  • HUGE amount of animated and non-animated web banners and e-mail ads

And it is only a beginning 🙂

In 2012 our resolution is to become even better and bigger.

Stockholm, baby…

Howdy, my dear friends!

This summer was very nice, We had a lot of work and lot of free days to spend with our families and friends. New business season is coming and I’m glad to tell that Landegra Design is coming to Stockholm for a visit.

Our week-visit will be pretty tight, but there will be a lot of blank spots as well. If you’re interested in meeting the staff and discussing some co-work possibilities, just give us to know 🙂

Fancy effects on soft covers are not that fancy

Hello my dear people,

Several weeks ago I received a copy of the book I had designed and was a bit disappointed and even a bit pissed off. I was prepared for everything but not for what I saw.

Nowadays publishing houses try to give their books more accent by adding various kinds of fancy effects as emboss, UV-varnish, foil.

Sometimes it works well, but most of the time it’s just spending money on a castle made of air. In some cases (soft covers) cool fancy effects on the front can even ruin the inside page and usually this page is used to put “about author” information on it.
